Join Us

Join us on an amazing 5-day / 4-night Jurassic Coast photography workshop as we explore the iconicand favourite locations of the Dorset coast.

With our small group tour – a max of just 5 participants – we’ll be including world-famous landscapes and iconic Dorset locations of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, plus some infrequently visited gems such as two stunning Beech tree avenues, plus a gorgeous old castle (possibly two) so there’ll be a variety of unique opportunities and stunning locations on offer.

As a bonus – as if the incredible scenery of the Jurassic Coast isn’t enough – the best filter company in the business, Kase filters, is kindly providing multiple sets of their Pro filters so each of our photography workshop participants can get the most out of this amazing tour! (over £3,000 worth – so you have a bonus practical filter photography course on top!) We’ll also be keeping an eye on the cloud cover at night to see if we can do any astrophotography.  Since we’re staying so close to the landscape photographer’s favourite location of Durdle Door, we’ll have the opportunity to photograph this amazing natural arch at sunrise, during the day, at sunset, and possibly at night!

Jurassic Coast Tour – Daily Itinerary

Kingston Lacy Beech Avenue

Day 1 – Journey to the Jurassic Coast

Our photographic adventure begins!

You and your fellow travellers will be collected by your photo guide from the scheduled meeting point. From there, you’ll begin the journey to the Jurassic Coast. On our drive through Dorset we’ll stop off at Kingston Lacy’s bech tree avenue on our way to West Lulworth, our home on the footsteps of Durdle Door.

We’ll settle in and look to head to the beach for a sunset at our feature Jurassic Coast location, Durdle Door.

Durdle Door sunrise

Day 2 – Durdle Door and Lulworth Castle

On day two, you’ll rise early as we prepare for the stunning views of Durdle Door, the natural limestone arch that soars out of the sea, as the sun rises behind it.

After we’ve captured the light from our morning session, we’ll head to Lulworth Castle to explore the grounds, and with any luck we’ll find some puddles to practice our reflection shots.

Following lunch, we’ll assess the weather conditions and consider one of our many options for a Dorset sunset.

Kimmerage Bay at sunset

Day 3 – Corfe Castle and Kimmerage Bay

After breakfast on the third day we may venture to the iconic Corfe Castle, a 1,000+ year old castle that was partially destroyed by Parliamentarians when it was captured by siege in 1647.

In the afternoon we’ll explore Kimmeridge Bay on Dorset’s Jurassic World Heritage Coast.  We’ll look for compositions along the rock shelves and pools around the bay as the tide changes, and admire (and maybe walk up to) the four story Clavell Tower high on the cliff over looking Kimmerage bay.

Durdle Door sunset

Day 4 – Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, and Portland Bill

Day four sees us returning to Durdle Door for a different viewpoint, along with Man O’War Beach.

After sunrise, we’ll make our way to the unique rock formations of Lulworth Cove, where you’ll explore the bay and take the short climb up to photograph Stair Hole.

Following lunch, we’ll make the journey to Portland Bill, where our photograhy session will include capturing the crashing waves against Pulpit Rock and hopefully a colourful sunset featuring Portland Bill Lighthouse.

Durdle Door black and white long exposure

Day 5 – Return to London (via Durdle Door and Gold Hill)

Our workshop’s final day!  We’ll rise early to photograph Durdle Door one last time, then our tour will say goodbye to the Jurassic Coast and start our journey back to London. During our drive back we’ll plan to stop off at some opportunistic Dorset locations such as Moor Crichel and Gold Hill, and arrive back to London with full memory cards having explored one of the UK’s greatest landscape photography locations.

Thank you so much Dion for another great photo excursion (Dorset photography workshop). Very well thought out though flexible and as usual you were on hand to offer useful tips and helpful advice.

Great to use the Kase filters again too!

Thanks Dion for an amazing workshop, you have helped my confidence grow on the technical side of using my camera once again. I have some lovely images now to look back and remember the experience.

Dion Hitchcock UK Photo Tours workshop guide

Dion Hitchcock

UK Photo Tours is owned and operated by professional photographer, Dion Hitchcock.

Dion brings over a decade of expertise in teaching and guiding photography. He is an expat Australian and when not running photography tours, resides in London, UK, running photography workshops or as a locum pharmacist. His extensive travel experiences, spanning over 40 countries, ignited his passion for photography as a means to chronicle his journeys. This passion quickly evolved into a profound interest, leading him to actively participate in various camera clubs, assisting them in conducting workshops. Today, Dion independently operates his own workshops mainly across the UK, and occasionally internationally.

His London-based photography Meetup groups have 7,000+ members and over 500 5-star ratings.

Dion still maintains his registration as a pharmacist professional, dedicating his time to aiding patients and educating pharmacy students. However, he has transitioned his time into the realm of photography, where he assists clients in understanding the craft’s technical and artistic aspects. This shift, though unconventional, aligns with his upbringing; both of his parents were artists who nurtured his appreciation for the world’s inherent beauty. His extensive photography experience, professional background, passion for teaching, and numerous five-star reviews ensures you’ll be in the best of care whilst on tour.
